The recent election proved that Filipino voters have slowly but surely matured. Although they admire celebrities like Richard Gomez, Cesar Montano, and Tito Sotto, the voters’ desire to elect a true leader prompted them not to cast their votes for these people.
Â
Political analysts say the voters may have been so disappointed with the performances of actors who were previously elected to government office.
Â
Whatever the reasons are, one thing is clear. The public did not vote for majority of showbiz personalities.
Â
Let us try to mention here the unsuccessful ones in the recent election.
Â
Aside from Gomez, Montano and Sotto, singer Victor Wood will not make it even in the top 20 senatoriables.
Â
In Makati, Senator Lito Lapid lost to incumbent Mayor Jejomar Binay. Manny Pacquiao’s endorsement did not really help him. Incidentally, Pacquiao also lost to incumbent Rep. Darlene Custodio in the first district of South Cotabato.
Â
In Caloocan, Rey Malonzo also lost in the mayoral race. Nadia Montenegro also conceded to her opponent in the congressional race in Caloocan’s first district.
Â
In Paranaque, comedian Anjo Yllana lost to former councilor Gus Tambunting as Vice Mayor.
Â
Even in the provinces, most celebrities are faring poorly.
Â
In Pampanga, reelectionist Governor Mark Lapid lost to Fr. Eddie Panlilio.
Â
Actor Cristopher de Leon was in third place in the race for Batangas vice governor.
Â
Marco Sison is also losing the vice gubernatorial race in Laguna.
Â
Also in Laguna, Angelica Jones and Leandro Baldemor failed to make it in the provincial board.
Â
In Antipolo, Jestoni Alarcon was defeated by Mayor Angelito Gatlabayan as representative of the third district.
Â
In Zamboanga del Norte, actor Mat Ranillo III is also lagging behind in the race for congressman in the province’s third district.
Â
If there are showbiz people who failed to make it, there are also those who are victorious like Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, Hebert Bautista, Isko Moreno, ER Ejercito, Teri Onor and Dan Fernandez.
Â
Celebrities who ran for councilors like Roselle Nava, Tosca Puno, Lou Veloso, Yul Servo and Cristina Romualdez are winning too.
