Last Night, my wife an I was able to watch a preview of the move “The Orphan” (watch official trailer here) at the Gateway Cinema in Araneta Center Cubao (Thanks to Azrael)
This horror suspense movie is about a married couple Kate and John who were devastated for the loss of her unborn child. Although they already have 2 existing children, they eventually decided to adopt another one to give their love to their unborn child to another one who needs it.
They were drawn to a young girl named Esther who seems to be a nice young angelic girl. Soon, a series of alarming events and evil behavior was being shown by Ester. Kate was determined to find out what’s wrong with Ester and discovered a little known secret that goes way beyond what you think it is.
Without giving out much spoilers, all I can say is, Esther was totally wicked. More wicked than the worst adopted child behavior you’ve ever seen. If you’re going to watch this movie, pls don’t bring your kids. Esther was bright, and yet manipulative in the cruelest sense you wish you could have strangled her if this happened to you.
We left the movie theater feeling horrified that we felt we need to eat some “feel good” food. So we decided to stop by a nearby ice-cream store to get the negative vibes out of our system.
I think for a horror suspense movie, that is exactly what the director would like you to feel. If you distance yourself from the movie for a moment, you would probably appreciate Isabelle Fuhrman’s acting abilities (Esther). For a sweet looking 12 year old girl to take on this role of a child serial killer, master manipulator, mentally insane person would be a difficult job.
