Pacquiao vs Marquez III – Scorecard

For those who want to see how the judges scored today’s boxing match, here’s the Pacquiao vs Marquez III scorecard.

I am a pacquiao fan of but in today’s match, I was almost expecting a Marquez win. I’m not a boxing fanatic or someone who is well versed on how it is scored so just like many, I thought Marquez won. He clearly got at least 3 very convincing rounds while Manny had some rounds but overall, not convincing.

Probably I’m expecting a knockout just like before, or l was looking for the trademark Manny Pacquiao’s seek and destroy attitude. For some reason Marquez prevented Manny to box like he did before.

I admit, I was surprised by the decision. So I started googling and reading boxing stuff.

According to stats, Pacquiao was landed 176 of 578 punches, 117 of it were power punches , while Marquez landed 138 of 436 with 100 power punches. Marquez though seem to land the harder punches.

Pacquiao was mostly the one who is the agressor. Apparently this was also considered for those rounds where there weren’t any clear “winner”. I also read somewhere that in most cases, rounds which doesn’t have decisive an clear dominator would go to the defender since in each round, one must have a score of 10 and the other, at most a 9. There isn’t any 10/10 equal score for both fighters.

I guess that’s the technical reason why Pacquiao won. I guess we’re so used to seeing Manny winning by knockout, technical knockout, or dominating the 12 rounds and having “great” fights and when he did a “good” fight, it looks like he lost.

One thing for sure, Marquez earns the respect of a lot of the Filipinos today. He showed a great fight, great counter punching, great boxing. The judges know more on how to properly score than me so let’s leave the scoring to them.

Although it’s not one of those “convincing” fights. It’s still a win. I guess that’s better than the 1st fight wherein Manny knocked down Marquez several times and it still ended up a draw.
