NASA is scheduled to bomb the moon on October 8, 2009. NASA thinks there’s water down under the lunar surface. The LCROSS (Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite) bombing of the moon mission will be launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. This mission will carry a missile to bomb the lunar surface.
Scientists think that under the surface, there lies water ice trapped in crater shadows. This part, they believe, is located near the South Pole since it doesn’t receive any sunlight at all.
A petition to stop NASA from bombing the moon is ongoing. Here’s an exerpt from www.petitionsite.com:
“This so-called “NASA experiment” is a hostile act of aggression and a violent intrusion upon our closest and dearest celestial neighbor that will also have far reaching effects here on earth. Who knows how this will effect ocean tides and weather patterns, to say the least. We pledge solidarity with the Moon and ask your support in preventing this planned attack against her.”
The petitioners have a point. We are not certain of what disadvantages it will cause us to bomb the moon. Moon has got to be ready for fire in the hole. Different agencies have come up with ways to campaign against this action. Watch this video as one of those campaigns.
